EZRentOut’s integration with Avalara AvaTax helps you automate time-consuming tax work, freeing up your staff to focus on tasks that can help you grow your business.
Avalara provides real-time tax calculation using data from more than 12,000 US taxing jurisdictions, ensuring EZRentOut order taxes are calculated correctly. This integration is currently only available in the US and Canada.
At launch, the integration will be available to North American users who are already using Avalara or intend to get an Avalara subscription.
Accessing the Avalara AvaTax integration
To begin using the Avalara AvaTax integration, go to Settings and then click on Integrations in the bar at the top of the screen.
Once this is done, search for “AvaTax Integration” in the search bar and click on it once it appears.
In short, the pathway you have to follow is: Settings → Integrations → AvaTax Integration
Setting up Your Account
Once you have reached this section, enable the integration.
Now you can enter your AvaTax credentials.
If you have an AvaTax account, you can enter your Account number and License key.
Once your credentials have been entered, choose “Production” as your AvaTax environment.
If you want to test the integration before finalizing your setup, you can choose “Sandbox” instead of “Production.”
After this, you will have to choose your company from the drop-down below in case you have multiple company accounts in AvaTax.
You can now enter your license key and account number.
Once this is done, you will be able to verify your account.
Click “Update” to save your settings.
Fetching your taxes
To fetch your tax data, go into “Orders” and select a specific order to see how much it is being taxed.
To do this, go into “Orders” from the EZRentOut sidebar.
Now, open any order.
From here, click “More” and go to “Fetch Taxes from Avalara” from the dropdown.
Basically, go to: Orders → Order # → More → Fetch Taxes From Avalara
Putting in order location and customer’s shipping address is mandatory for the integration to work.
The first step to putting in the location is clicking on Add Location under Order Details as shown in the screenshot below.
Now, fill in the address details in the popup.w
Repeat these steps for the shipping address under the Shipping & Billing Details section.
The tax amount can now be seen by scrolling to the calculation table.
You can commit a transaction to the Avalara AvaTax integration through the following path:
Orders → Order # → More → Commit transaction to AvaTax
Note: You can only commit a transaction after an order has been rented out / sold. Currently, the AvaTax integration does not work with QBO, Xero and other accounting integrations. QBD clients can download the Avalara add-on separately to sync their taxes.
